Embracing An Unexpected Field

February 19 2018

When I first saw that I had won the Listserve I was so surprised! (and excited!) Most of my life these days is focused on work. For the last 3+ years, I've been working in consulting and cannot imagine myself in another field! Since high school, I was focused on working for the government, but the government jobs that I was qualified for were scarce. I stumbled upon a consulting job posting in my post grad school job search-- an unexpected curve ball! After these last 3.5 years in consulting, I love how it continually challenges me to be better nearly while every day helping me learn something new and interesting.

My current challenge: how do I get over the hurdle of managing my peers while also managing up to those senior to me? By then end of 2018, I hope to master this new dimension of the job and then begin my search for a career coach who can help me perfect my case for promotion in 2019.

If you have any managing up or sideways tip, tricks, or recommendations for any career coaches with experience in working with consultants -- I would love to hear what you have to say! :)

Lastly: Everyone has an interesting career path and story about how they discovered their passion. How did you find the work that you're passionate about? I would love to hear your story if you're willing to share. Sometimes the things we're best suited for find us before we can find them.

Cheers,
Devon
