Perspective and Other Thoughts

March 14 2017

Hello people of the world! I'm Kirsten and I'm a 20 year-old theatre major/Starbucks barista. One of the most essential tools that a theatre person can have is a plethora of perspective. I spend a lot of time people watching. Heck, I even signed up for Listserve because I enjoy the chance to read the thoughts and musings of fellow human beings. I've taken on the philosophy that if you work to truly understand people, you cannot hate them, and we definitely could use a lot less hate in the world.

I am planning on getting my teaching credentials and running a high school theatre program. I know a lot more about the world of theatre than I do about teaching, but my high school drama teacher was one of the biggest influences in my life and I want to be able to make a difference in young people's lives through creative expression.

I'm just now finding the balance in my life between school, work, friends, and doing the things I love. I can be overly ambitious at times, but I want to make the most of my time. When the play I'm currently working on is over, I'm going to do some volunteer work with the local animal shelter.

If you ever have the opportunity to, consider fostering for a shelter. Animal shelters don't have the resources to care for itty bitty babies, so they are often the first to be put down unless they can be placed in a foster home where they can receive the care they need. Please spay and neuter your pets! Also, if you've got a community of feral cats nearby, find out if you have any TNR programs nearby. Trap Neuter Return programs work to catch feral cats with humane traps, neuter them, and then return them to their community. This is the best option for feral cats because if they end up in shelters, they will be put down. The best course of action is to allow the cats to live where they live, but to prevent them from expanding their populations.

Thank you humans for a bit of your time. Have a lovely day!
